The Gosaikunda trek is a movement to see the snow-capped freshwater icy mass lake called Gosaikunda dwelling at the elevation of 4,380 meters inside the Langtang National Park of Rasuwa district of Nepal.

Best Times

There is no so-called best time for trekking in Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu trek. It depends upon your personal choice and the features you want in your trekking journey.

So, your trekking journey is going to be best according to your choice of features, then the season. But considering the features and the aspects of the trekking journey that the trekkers can get during the seasons, the times of Spring and Autumn are said to be the best times to trek on this trail.

As with Spring, the blooming landscapes of the Langtang region get their peak with the various flowering plants. Rodhendroden is one of them which covers all the routes with its beautiful blossoming beauty. The weather also gets its stable stage, and a longer day to enjoy your trekking day more. You get clear skies all the time as a monsoon before it washes all the dust in the air. So, you will get a very refreshing journey and a beautiful odour of Himalayan making it one of the best times for this trekking itinerary.

Another is the season of Autumn. With this, you will get a very colorful and mesmerizing beauty as it is the time when the plants get their changing phase and change their dry leaves with new ones, and this phenomenon drives the landscapes to gain it’s colorful out. Preparation And Fitness

This trek of Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek is a long trek which covers the journey over the duration of 2  weeks of continuous walk with the trekking itinerary. So, you need some pretty good preparation for your essentials and fitness before you move your footsteps for your journey.

Always carry some extra clothes which can keep you warm as the high altitude of this trek holds very cold temperatures. Carry as much as will be enough while having your journey during your itinerary. Also, carry the extra pairs of footwear that are a matter of comfortable to you and in a pretty good condition as there in the journey is very little chance of getting another pair of any kind of footwear or alternative for your shoes, if you possibly encounter any kind of fault in your shoes during the trekking trip.

Have your own personal trekking essential during the ascending and descending trekking itinerary. Also, you can keep extra equipment and some other essential gear and things for you if you doubt you may need them during the trek.

We recommend you do not carry any unusual and unnecessary stuff with you which are not that essential during your trekking journey. Carry them only if you need them the most on the daily basis of your trekking journey.

We recommend you do the basic exercise of a month before starting your itinerary to have better results and a good trekking journey of two weeks.

1. Starting Point: The trek usually begins in Syabrubesi, and the trail initially follows the Langtang Valley route. Syabrubesi is accessible by a scenic drive from Kathmandu.

2. Langtang Valley Exploration: The initial days of the trek take you through the Langtang Valley, passing charming villages like Lama Hotel and Mundu. Enjoy the cultural richness of the Tamang communities and the serenity of the Langtang River.

3. Kyangjin Gompa: Reach Kyangjin Gompa, a Buddhist monastery with breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung. Kyangjin Gompa serves as a base for acclimatization and exploration, including a possible day hike to Tserko Ri.

4. Gosainkunda Lakes: Depart from Kyangjin Gompa to reach the sacred alpine lakes of Gosainkunda. The trail ascends through rhododendron forests and yak pastures, revealing stunning mountain vistas. The Gosainkunda region is known for its spiritual significance and the presence of several lakes, the main one being Gosainkunda.

5. Laurebina Pass (Gosaikunda Pass): Ascend to the Laurebina Pass (Gosaikunda Pass) at an altitude of approximately 4,600 meters (15,091 feet). The pass offers panoramic views of the Langtang Range, Ganesh Himal, and the surrounding peaks.

6. Tharepati and Downhill Descent: Descend from the pass to the village of Tharepati, passing through picturesque landscapes and rhododendron forests. The trail gradually descends, offering views of terraced fields and traditional villages.

7. Melamchi Gaon and Tarke Gyang: Continue the trek through the villages of Melamchi Gaon and Tarke Gyang. Experience the unique culture of the Helambu region, inhabited by Sherpas. The trail meanders through terraced fields and dense forests.

8. Sermathang to Melamchi Bazaar: The trek concludes with a descent to Melamchi Bazaar. From here, you can drive back to Kathmandu, completing the Langtang Gosainkunda Trek.

9. Accommodations: Teahouses and lodges along the route provide basic accommodations and meals, allowing trekkers to experience the warmth of local hospitality

Detail Itinerary

Day 1: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,550m / 5,085ft)

  • Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the starting point of the trek.
  • Enjoy the scenic drive through picturesque landscapes.

Day 2: Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,380m / 7,808ft)

  • Trek through lush forests of rhododendron and bamboo.
  • Cross the Langtang River and reach Lama Hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Lama Hotel to Mundu (3,430m / 11,253ft)

  • Continue the ascent through the Langtang Valley.
  • Pass through the villages of Ghoda Tabela and Thangsyap before reaching Mundu.

Day 4: Mundu to Kyangjin Gompa (3,870m / 12,697ft)

  • Trek to Kyangjin Gompa, a Buddhist monastery.
  • Enjoy breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung and surrounding peaks.

Day 5: Acclimatization Day in Kyangjin Gompa

  • Explore Kyangjin Gompa and surroundings.
  • Optionally, take a day hike to Tserko Ri for panoramic mountain views.

Day 6: Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel

  • Descend back through the Langtang Valley.
  • Reach Lama Hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 7: Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2,230m / 7,316ft)

  • Trek to Thulo Syabru, a Tamang village with cultural significance.
  • Pass through forests and terraced fields.

Day 8: Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa (Chandan Bari)

  • Trek from Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa (Chandan Bari).
  • Pass through rhododendron forests and encounter wildlife.
  • Visit the cheese factory at Sing Gompa.
  • Overnight stay at Sing Gompa.

Day 9: Sing Gompa to Gosainkunda

  • Trek from Sing Gompa to Gosainkunda.
  • Ascend to the holy lakes of Gosainkunda.
  • Explore the lakes and the surrounding area.
  • Overnight stay near Gosainkunda.

Day 10: Gosainkunda to Ghopte

  • Trek from Gosainkunda to Ghopte via Lauribina Pass.
  • Enjoy the scenic views of the Himalayas and alpine landscapes.
  • Descend to Ghopte for overnight stay.

Day 11: Ghopte to Mangengoth

  • Trek from Ghopte to Mangengoth.
  • Pass through dense forests and cross several streams.

  • Overnight stay at Mangengoth.

Day 12: Mangengoth to Kathmandu via Sundarijal

  • Trek from Mangengoth to Sundarijal.
